May Critical Mass recap

Last Friday's ride was one of the coolest I've ever had the pleasure of participating in. Despite apocalyptic warnings of rain, thunder and lightning, the sun ended up coming out and the weather was beautiful for the whole ride. There were also a lot of interesting interpretations of the suit-and-tie theme:

(click on the image above to see the whole set of photos)

There was also a very nice change in the police attitude - there were five or six bike cops and just a couple of cars to follow behind. They were very friendly and definitely helped things run smoothly.

Can't wait for next month!

In an effort to make critical mass more festive,
we like to propose a theme for dress-up ideas...
Feel free to suggest the next one!

May Critical Mass

The next Critical Mass is coming up fast, and I would like to propose a theme: business attire! Why? Well, why not? As a show of solidarity to the office commuters, and because riding around in a suit is kinda fun. Wardrobe can be found for cheap at Salvation Army, Value Village, and other friperie joints.

A reminder of safety guidelines for any first-timers:

- Stay in the direction of traffic! That means sticking to one side of a two-way street, and not taking one-way streets in the wrong direction. This caused us a lot of grief in March; less so in April, so I think most people are catching on.

- Stick together! Keep a slow pace, and don't let anyone fall behind. Keeping things tight prevents cars from getting mixed up in the ride, which can only cause problems.

- Have fun, be polite, and keep a cool head! Don't let yourself get sucked into an argument with an angry driver; unnecessary confrontations can ruin a ride. If they do something dangerous, tell the cops.

See you all in a few days!

Bike-Radio-Velo! $free .mp3s...

9may07-BikeRadioInTheStreets-32min.mp3

'cyclists around mc'ill and conU talk about bikes- produced 9 may 2007 -

To hear from bicyclists and share their voices,
we took a portable recorder out on the streets to ask:
Why do you ride a bike?
What do you think of Montreal's bike infrastructure?
If you were the mayor of Montreal, what would you do to make bicyclists
happy?
Is there a bike community in Montreal? Do you feel like you are a part of it?

This was produced in preparation for the Grand Debut of Bike Radio on CKUT
90.3fm. Our first show will go live to air on thursday, may 24th, from
5-6pm. You can tune in live at 90.3 on your fm dial, or log on to
http://ckut.ca for the mp3 archives.
