What L.A. (and Montreal) can learn from Portland
A columnist from the Los Angeles Times ruminates on what makes transit in Portland work - and how they've taken the idea of a car-free city seriously. From bikes to buses to rail, a good read all-around, and a good introduction to the city for the curious.

Rail lines aren't a bad idea for Montreal, but we'll have so many problems in the winter. Plus it'll cost more to build and upkeep putting us, the city in debt. I rather the city just allow cyclists to bring bikes on the buses. Also with buses STM has more flexibility and can change routes easier, then they could if they were to have a street car. It would require ripping out railway lines out of the road every time they feel like changing the route.
